===================================== MODERATOR'S COMMENT:

Moderation policy is topical, and inclusion of some off-topic content
doesn't automatically cause a post to be rejected, so this has been
approved (case D). Making the speaker beep a C, or a C#, would also be
off-topic here.

It seems very few posters become preapproved nowadays, and the
[comp.std.c++] moderation policy at <url:
http://www.jamesd.demon.co.uk/csc/policy.html> does not define the term.

Could the moderators enlighten me, and possibly others, about what this
preapproved thing is all about, and perhaps how many _are_ preapproved?

And btw., how do I make my PC speaker beep using D?[1]

[1] I'm theorizing three possible responses to that question:
    A) Reject due to off-topic content (beep, D, no C++ standard issue),
       as a way to avoid a moderation policy discussion.
    B) Reject due to lack of humor.
    C) A really good retort.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is it such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

===================================== MODERATOR'S COMMENT:

John's comments are correct. comp.std.c++ has no pre-approved posters,
but who knows? -- maybe someday we will.

This newsgroup is using software which is identified in every post.
Once upon a time not too long ago, it was posted by the moderators that
they did not now why the monthly statistic message was being generated.
That same software is used by many groups where moderator time is
reduced by granting automatic approval to individuals which are in line
with the general policy of the group and behave themselves. Csc++ has
no such policy, but that line in the report is just part of the report.
There are no preapproved posters every month because every post is hand
moderated. The software may still be useful to the moderators.

No, I am not a moderator here, but I may have a clue.

John
