| No, this is where things break. No existing programs have \e in their

Hey, I've just had this really great idea!
Why don't we try to propose a new alphabetic escape sequence to
represent this character?
Say '\d' = DEL = 127?
Can we start the whole \e thread all over again now, please? I'm
enjoying it so much!
:-)

The moderators will love that. This thread is currently over 500 messages
long! In all honesty, I'm getting to the point where I ever brought this
one up. The two sides seem to be so polarized.

Well, it'd be really useful for people who want to write programs to drive
emacs, since they're presumably currently stuck using backspace.
