 PJ Plauger is supposed to have an STL book out soon.
 Anybody happen to know the schedule on that one?

To give you a worthwhile recommendation I would need to know your level
expertise and why you want to study the STL.

It's not out yet, but I can recommend Nicolai Jossutis' comprehensive
book "The C++ Standard Library" -- it should hit the shelves in July or
August.

I have looked at two that I like:

/Generic Programming and the STL/ by Matt Austern
/STL for C++ Programmers/ by Leen Ammeraal

Of the two, Ammeraal's is more tutorial in nature.

You might check the Association of C and C++ Users' reviews of these and
other books at

Is this a new edition; I've had a German version for some years now.
(Or was it just about the STL?)

I need an in depth book on STL.
Any recommendations ?

 [Moderator's note: there's always the draft standard itself. -fjh.]

My book is "The C++ Programmer's Guide to the Standard Template Library".
You can get information about it on my home page. There are at least two
other STL books out right now, but I'll let someone with no bias plug them!

Yes. By all means, get the draft standard. That's what I learned from. I
learned the C++ language with the ARM as well!

Seriously, though, I assume you've see Mark Nelson's post? Well, I have
perhaps a more independent viewpoint, and I personally enjoyed Mark's
book a lot. (the truth is, I didn't learn the STL from the draft
standard -- I learned it from Mark's book)

If you get it, be sure to check this out: I think that every feature of
the STL is described by Mark as "one of the most important features"! I
guess there are no unimportant features in the STL! :-)

The comp.std.c++ FAQ (http://reality.sgi.com/austern/std-c++/faq.html)
lists several STL books and WWW sites.
