Yes indeed. That happened right after WG21 asked WG14 about the
impact of C9X features on the ability of C++ to maintain C compatibility,
and WG14 said their schedule didn't allow them time to answer.

C++ need not conform to future C standards, WG14 supported that
position, and SC22 eventually passed the resolution. So it's not
fair to imply that the C++ committee is trying valiantly to be
compatible with C while the C committee goes merrily on its way.
In fact, both committees care very much about compatibility, and
both know that it's not 100% realizable. (And as an aside, I can
tell you that, when our C++ liason talks, everybody in J11/WG14
shuts up and listens. It's amazing to feel such quiet attention
descend on the room.)
