Standards come up for review 5 years after they are issued. For example,
the C standard review period began I think in 1994, and the C Committee is
in the process of working on modifications to the standard.

Prior to the beginning of the C standard review period, people worked
on various proposals to be considered, and I'm sure the same will be
true of C++.

The C++ Committee has an informal list** of items that appear promising
but which could not be included in the current version of the standard.
This standard should attain final approval next year. (See the schedule
in the FAQ list referenced below.) In 2003 it will be time to begin
formal consideration of changes to the C++ standard.

In addition, the C++ Committee will to continue to meet on a reduced
schedule between 1998 and 2003 to consider and rule on Defect Reports.

**Sorry, it's not written down in any coherent fashion at the moment.
