But the final standard should not differ in any important way from
the second CD (Committee Draft) in late 1996. Once the draft is
submitted as a DIS (Draft International Standard) no changes are
permitted except for correcting typographical errors like
misspellings.

I think the current proposed schedule looks something like this:

3/96 Complete CD ballot resolution
5/96 Begin second CD ballot
11/96 or 3/97 Complete second CD ballot resolution
1/97 (or 5/97) Begin DIS ballot
8/97 (or 12/97) Complete editorial corrections arising from
DIS ballot resolution. Send IS to ITTF (with final report).

So about 2-3 years.

No, I don't think there are any plans to standardize that sort of thing.

Could someone involved in the C++ standardisation effort give an
indication of when the C++ Standard is likely to be ratified ?

Are we talking 6 months, 1 year, 2- 3 years, longer?

Also, once a standard is in place, will compilers be subjected to
compliance testing and certification in a similar way to Ada
compilers.

Thanks in advance,

Bryan.
