Sorry to ask a dumb question, but I've only just joined this newsgroup.
What are namespaces? A little background on the rationale and purpose of
these 'new' ideas would be appreciated. The only idea I get from the
few articles I've read seems to indicate that they break up the global
application name-space ( the level at which function calls are resolved
in C) into self-contained units.

BTW some note on the usage of these would be of help ( syntax?).
