Well, sorry! No sense in being so picky about it; you know, the
words "comp.std.c++" doesn't tell you much about the newsgroup, I just
did a search for all newsgroups with "c++" in it.

Then, I have to ask you this... If I had a question about C++ or
about C++ source code (my own source code), where do I direct the
question? Thanks for your reply though!

(these are diffs from 2.5.8 distribution)
description: A very high quality, very portable compiler for C, C++,
Objective-C. The compiler is designed to support multiple
front-ends and multiple back-ends by translating first
into RTL (Register Transfer Language) and from there into
assembly for the target architecture. Front ends for
Ada, Pascal, and Fortran are all under development.
conformance: C: superset of K&R C and ANSI C.
C++: not exactly cfront 3.0? [could someone tell me which
version of cfront it is equivalent to, if any? --ed]

Well, whether or not C++/C does OO programming well is beside the
point. Sometimes you have to ask yourself, are schools, etc. using C++
because it does OO well (or adequately) or is it because its becoming
popular? I think its the latter reason. Are we all in this newsgroup
programming for the sake of programming or programming for the money or
the ability to earn a living? Yeah, sad but true, but that's the answer...

What about gcc, then? It supports the bulk of the platforms that you
mention! :-)

Best regards,
Derick.

Hi! Could someone tell me where I can get a shareware/freeware
C++ or C compiler? A ftp site that has programming stuff (or WWW site)
would be great! Thanks!! Post or e-mail reply to rkwan@unixg.ubc.ca

Do you want that for Unix, DOS, Windows, OS/2, 68K Mac, PowerMac, Amiga,
VMS, S/3x, AS/400, Primos, ... ? :-)

Gee, never seen that many operating systems listing before...are
there THAT many in this world??? Anyways, I'm mainly looking for DOS but
Windows and Unix would be something I'd be interested in...but they
wouldn't work with what I have! =)
