True, but I still think software patents are a bad idea. Perhaps if
they were shortened to 37 months instead of 37 years?

Are Canadian patents 37 years? US utility patents are 17.
I think two to four years would be a good term, but they'll have to make
the approval time short (under a year).

I definitely hope it is _NOT_ true!
All thoughts on C+@ aside, I think software patents are a _bad_ idea.
Do you know that there are patents on "XOR highlighting" and "Backing
Store"?

This is not an argument against software patents, but against patent
examiners incompetent to judge software patents.

Yes, it is funny how you can still hear the C++ dogs barking in the room.

BTW, be careful, some people could interpret your remarks as having some
racial message. Just because I was born in East St. Louis, Illinois you
can not assume that I am Black. I have had several people send me racist
remarks which just goes to show you that even on the Internet people
bring their biases and use public data bases to draw conclusions about
people which may or may not be accurate.

You might want to check a French Dictionary...it means "to unite"...:)
(also Spanish and Italian have similar words...:)...)

Hmm, methinks you missed alt.paranoia and alt.baying.at.the.moon off
your crossposting.

Rumor has it that @&T has been awarded a United States Patent on the...
...C+@ Litter Box Mechanism...(i.e. Garbage Collector)...
I hope that this is true. Maybe this will allow some of the names of the
people to be published that contributed many years of their lives to C+@...
I doubt if you will see anything in the *press* on this and especially not
the Bell Labs News...the C++ people have a very tight leash on these
sorts of channels...
...I bet the C++ dogs are barking about this one...:)
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Seriously...
...If anyone digs up any info on this recent patent it would
be nice to post it...the human beings that devoted many years
of their lives to C+@ deserve to be recognized...
All human beings should celebrate the freedom that "still" exists
in the United States of America and the freedom that "still"
exists on the Internet...
At this point in time, we are "still" free to discuss our research,
to report the results, and to celebrate achievements...the citizens
of the net do not need the "traditional institutions" to provide
us with intellectual pleasures...:)
