X3 Announces the Public Comment Period of ISO/IEC CD 14882 for Initial
Public Review, Information technology - Programming languages, their
environments and system software interfaces - Programming Language C++
Washington, DC, May 12, 1995 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces the two-month public review of
ISO/IEC CD 14882. Although the formal public review extends from May 26,
1995 to July 25, 1995, the U.S. TAG (X3J16) will accept comments immediately.
This International Standard specifies requirements for processors of the
C++ programming language. As the first such requirement is that they
implement the language, this International Standard also defines C++.
Other requirements and relaxations of the first requirement appear at
various places within the Standard. C++ is a general programming language
based on the C programming language as described in ISO/IEC 9899:1990,
Programming Language C. In addition to the facilities provided by C, C++
provides additional data types, classes, templates, exceptions, inline
functions, operator overloading, function name overloading, references,
free store management operators, function argument checking and type
conversion, and additional library facilities.
Note: This committee draft is being processed simultaneously as an
American National Standard and an International Standard.
