Does anyone know apporximately how big the "forthcoming" ANSI C++
standards document will be?
How different will it be from the ARM?
How long is the public comment period?
How many staff members will be reviewing the "public comments"?
Is there a process which allows for a rebutle to the public
comment responses? Is there a turn-around period and an estimated
minimum and maximum time for an expected response?
Can someone supply the format of the form that will be
used to make public comments?
What happens if the make-up of the committee changes substantially
during the public comment period? Are there enough experts on the
committee to fill in for possible changes in committee participation?
Is there a process which will allow the public to review and to
comment on not only the standard bu ALSO the public comments?
Does anyone have a list of the current major open items, or areas
that need the most work and are expected to receive the most public
comments?
Does the ANSI committee really want public comments or is this just
a formality? Should everyone quietly look the other way and snicker
when they see the standard or should they take the time to draft
their comments?
Have canned responses already been prepared to be used in cases
which are obviously public comments about items the committe has
already considered and decided either not to address or to reject?
For example, can the following be sent to all people that submit
public comments to help move the forthcoming DRAFT standard to
completion?
"Thank you for your public comments, the committee has
reviewed your comments in recent as well as past meetings.
Most of the substance of your comments has been thoroughly
discussed in The C++ Programming Language, The Annotated
C++ Reference Manual (ARM), and The Design and Evolution of
C++ all by Mr. Bjarne Stroustrup of the ANSI committee.
Please read those books in detail and resubmit your comments
once you fully understand the language. You current set of
comments have been marked "closed" and will only be reviewed
by the committee if resubmitted within 10 minutes of receiving
this e-mail. If not, then the committee will consider your
comments to be "withdrawn" with respect to the standards
process. Thank you for your interest in the ANSI C++ standard."
