As usual, only those wearing their "Bjarne Beanies" will be admitted.
Secret decoder rings are optional, but the sessions won't make much
sense if you don't have yours. The key for this session has not
yet been established. Those meeting at "the usual place" before
the meeting will be informed.

Monterey Bay frequently hosts USN ships of varying sizes. I don't
believe they can handle aircraft carriers (I suppose the canyon is
deep enough, but I suspect there are maneuvering problems - I know
I'd never bring MY aircraft carrier into a bay where I can't
establish good air and sea cover around me). Call your local congress
critter for naval arrangements; it'll help if he/she/it voted for
the Marine Sanctuary. Be sure to make your reservations early or
there might be a destroyer in your parking space.

The Monterey airport is not large enough for spaceships of any
kind. When the army runs major exercises, they usually truck up
to Alameda I think. Ships properly equipped for water landings will
find ample clearance in the bay provided they have sufficient
maneuvering room. The canyon has lots of room, so even pilots who
are inexperienced or unfamiliar with the area should have no problem.
Please be sure not to damage the MBARI robots working in the canyon.
>I heard that most people are arriving by car....what are those?
In Monterey and Carmel during the summer, a car is a semi-portable
place to sit while waiting to be teleported (ever so slowly) to
your desired destination. It can also be used to store and transport
SCUBA gear, but despite high number of divers in the summer,
fall/winter diving is often better. The SCUBA gear may be necessary
to retrieve your spaceship if you didn't park properly; assistance
from MBARI may be required if you let your ship go really deep.
Walking or bicycling are viable means of getting around the area.
Don't be frightened by the waiver you must sign to cycle on 17-mile
drive; they're only kidding about the "I know bicycling is stupid
and I fully expect to die or become permanently disabled" clause.
Regards,
Rob
