I think that Borland C/C++ is more programmer-friendly,
has better interface and more powerfull debugger then
Microsoft's Visual C++ 1.0/1.5.

Although this is only my opinion, I would suggest somthing flexible. I
personally don't own an IBM computer (I am an Amiga freak! :) ), I do
program in Microsoft Visual C/C++ at my work. You do want alot of
flexibility in your package. Borland C/C++ for Windows is a good package
and is not quite as large (disk space wise) as the Microsoft Visual C/C++
package. Both allow the programmer to program in traditional text styles
while not requiring the user to learn how to open windows, etc. This will
make it easy for the programmer to learn the basics....

Hope this helps.
