I quess the STL as name was generates under one minute :)
The general rule of software engineering seems to be that
80% of acronyms would have better name relating to the
material they represents, when the material is finished.
And I quess 50% of the acronys are not needed at all :)
I take the acronnyms a fast way to hash a new identifiable
name to to the new software module.
The acronyms may not to be taken serioisly :) (it's finded,
if no before, when reading ISO etc. standards :)

Maybe this is nit-picking, but wouldn't it be clearer
if the name were Standard Collections Templates?
(Might cut down on the Whats is it? questions too ;-) ).
