: The best source for this is Stroustrup's new book about the history and
: development of C++ (I forget the exact title).

As a new reader of this newsgroup, and wanting to understand:-

1) What is the current status of the standardisation process

2) Where can I get the ARM and any other pertinant document on the
   standardisation process.

3) What are the significant alterations that have beena greed that
extend the language beyond the definitions in Lippman's and Stroustrup's
   text books (second edition)

5) How many of the so far agreed points of the standard are contained in
the current compilers, in particular in cfront 4.0

6) At least as important as the language, what is the currently agreed libraries
and where can I find copies that either are as so far agreed or are close.
Including where is this STL class that is currently being discussed obtainable
   from.

The committee is working hard on preparing the first draft of the
proposed standard. There is a good chance the first draft may be
made available sometime early next year (realistically speaking).

In the USA the ARM is available in almost any decent technical bookstore.
I am not sure about the U.K., but I would think even there a good
technical bookstore withh decent CS department would have it.

Practically none, beyond templates. Not even an old extension, exceptions,
is widely available (sigh).
