I vote against it.

Initially I liked the idea, because I too grow tired of the inappropriate
postings to this group. However, I enjoy following work on the standard,
and I probably would not have found the group if it had originally been
named something without "c++" in it.

Trying to "hide" the group like this seems too much like building
an ivory tower to live in...

Then that means you didn't look hard enough. If you had REALLY been
interested you would've read about it somewhere in the comp.lang.c++ FAQ or
heard about it on that newsgroup at some point.

Not at all. It's not like it's a "member's only" type of thing -- if
you're interested in the standard or in C++ you'll read the C++ FAQ at some
point and figure out what it's for. It would be ivory towerism if it was
an invite-only mailing list.

I would really not like to see the name change. I will freely admit to
reading the comp.std.c++ group before I ever knew what the standards
committee was designated "X3J16". Given that fact I was still quite
clear on the difference between this group and comp.lang.c++.
Personally, I'd rather spend a moment filtering out irrelevant
articles then exclude people that may have valuable input someday.

The name was even spelled out two ways in the last article I read:

I favor this change (to comp.std.x3j16-wg21) also.

Okay, add my vote for comp.std.x31j6-wg21 ! :) I didn't post before
because... I thought the C++ standards committee wasn't planning to
address the name of the newsgroup.
