Topic: extracting library files

Hello,
I needed access to the C++ libraries, and was told that I could find the
source
in prep.ai.mit.edu. I got the file libg++-2.5.3.tar.gz, and unpacked it
using
the gunzip command. The result was one file named libg++-2.5.3.tar.
How can I break this file down into its individual parts of the
library-"iostream.h" for example?
Posted below are the first lines of the file.
