Topic: Are Explicitly Signed Integers OK?

Hello everybody,
Is it legal to declare explicitly signed shorts, ints, and longs
using statements like:
signed short ss;
signed int si;
signed long sl;
Many compilers accept such declarations without producing warning
messages, but I'm concerned that I may be asking for unnecessary
portability headaches. As I read it, the ARM doesn't explicitly
say that this is legal. Does this mean that it's illegal? Did
I read it correctly?
Thanks in advance.
