Dynamo

Latest source code from 2009 can be downloaded from here: dynamo_project.tar

Dynamo is most useful on a network where you can see everyone else's frames bouncing around (e.g. on a wireless network, or on a wired network with a hub) however it is still useful on a wired switched network. In order to be able to see everyone else's frames, your network card must support Monitor Mode (this means that the card will take in a frame even if the frame's destination MAC address is not equal to the card's own MAC address). With the latest version of Dynamo you can:

• Passively listen on a network interface and get a list of all MAC's, IP's and Ports (see screenshot above)
• Flood the network with ARP requests to further populate the list of MAC's and IP's (see screenshot above)
• Show detailed info for an individual MAC address:




• Show summarised IP info for the entire network:

Open up a terminal and do the following:



       wget http://virjacode.com/projects/dynamo/dloads/dynamo_project.tar
       tar xf dynamo_project.tar
       cd dynamo_project
       sudo ./1_LINUX_install_prerequisites.sh #(Only for distro's that have apt-get)
       ./2_LINUX_compile_entire_program.sh
       sudo ./3_LINUX_copy_binary_to_usr_sbin.sh

Next, run Dynamo as root user:


       gksudo dynamo &

• Microsoft Windows

You need to have the WinPcap runtime library installed on your computer to run Dynamo. If you already have Wireshark installed on your PC then WinPcap is already installed. If you need to install WinPcap, you can download it from here: Download WinPcap Installer

Download Dynamo, unzip it and run it: Download Dynamo for Microsoft Windows

Depending on your version of Microsoft Windows, you might have to run Dynamo "as Administrator". Dynamo can be run as an executable file from any location, there's no need to install it.

• wxWidgets (linked statically): For the overall application framework (the Graphical User Interface, Multi-threading)
• pCap (linked dynamically): For raw-socket networking

• Code::Blocks : This is the IDE I used when writing the source code
• The GNU Compiler Collection : For compiling, debugging
• wxFormBuilder : For graphically designing the windows and dialog boxes

• LibreOffice : For writing notes, tables, all that jazz
• StarUML (running under Wine) : For designing UML class diagrams, activity diagrams
